                                 AREKUNA ACTIVITIES

Excursions

Different expeditions to the surroundings could be made from the Camp. Among the most interesting we offer you: - To navigate and to walk in “Las Babas” Fall in the Caroni River.- To visit native’s Petroglyphes in “Las Babas” fall.- Guided walk through the tropical jungle.- To visit a native community named Antabares.- To walk though the observation decks.- Excursion to the base of the Table Mountains of Nonoy or Guariche. • To walk through the jungle (easy): A long walk, early in the morning or late afternoon through a footpath that starts in the camp and goes to the Antabares river. During the pathway you may see and listen to a great variety of typical animal species such as parakeets, macaws, toucans as well as a variety of monkeys.  This walk would take nearly forty-five minutes that is why we recommend departing an hour before the sun sets. • To walk to the hill (moderate): A long walk to the top of a small hill to enjoy the nice views of the Table Mountains, the tropical forest and savannahs.  • Boat ride to “Las Babas” Fall (easy): Navigating down the Caroni River we found “Las Babas” fall which crosses the river.  There is a walk after disembarking; stopping in different observation decks to enjoy this impressive audiovisual spectacle produced by consecutive water falls along 2 Km. In a small river pool there is a spectacular beach of white sand bathed by reddish waters typical of the zone. After a refreshing bath and sunbathing the return starts by another pathway that borders the Caroni River. During the dry season and due to the low level of water of the river you may appreciate the carved Petroglyphes that date back from the pre-Columbian period. • Excursion to the Nonoy (moderate): After navigating approximately 20 minutes through the Caroni River you would find on the left side margin the Nonoy Table Mountain; from there you would start a long walk of 40 minutes, crossing savannahs, jungle and morichales until reaching the slopes of the Table Mountain. There you will find a canyon from which the fall Nonoy Meru falls off. The deep pool that is at the base of this fall is ideal for taking a bath and to sit down on the sides and relax. (This expedition could only be made during the rainy season which is from June until November).

These excursions and the day program are programmed directly in the Camp and they could be changed according to the weather conditions so the visitors better appreciate the different landscapes which are of real great natural beauty.

DAY TOUR KAVAK (OPTIONAL)

Kavac is located in the “Gran Sabana” in the Kamarata Valley in the territory full of the Table Mountains, the sacred mountains of the Pemones Indians. The Camp is part of a small community of Pemones Indians of the Kamaracoto tribe. These natives live in hamlets alongside the valley dedicating to the agriculture of their own “conucos” (small plots of land), hunting, fishing and the manufacture of craftworks and eventually the mining and diamonds search. The Kavac community is terraced to the majestic Auyantepuy, the biggest Table Mountain of the “Gran Sabana”, which imposing vertical slopes of craggy rocks offer a unique and continuous spectacle of the Camp and its surroundings.  The contrast of the rocky formations of the Table Mountains subject to the water and wind erosion during million years, the jungle and the savannahs form an incredible natural contrast. Upon arrival you would be amazed with the imposing landscape of this zone. Its majestic Table Mountains arise abruptly of the savannah breaking the vastness of the same. The moment you get to Kavac you would walk from the savannahs of Moriches (palm trees) through a small pathway guided by a Pemon native and a bilingual guide of LTA, among rivers and water falls until crossing the extraordinary canyon and arrive to the mystic and spectacular Kavac Cave where you can take a bath in the different natural pools which waters are enriched with minerals and would enjoy the natural hydro massage. Upon return to the Camp lunch will be served to then take your flight back to your destination. This day tour includes air flight from the Arekuna Camp, excursion to the Kavac Cave with the travel crossing among the savannahs of Moriches, rivers, water falls and the imposing canyon. The joy of bathing in the different natural pools which waters is enriched with minerals and at the same time to enjoy the natural hydro massage. Lunch and all non-alcoholic drinks.

DAY TOUR URUYEN (OPTIONAL)

After flying through the spectacular territory of the “Gran Sabana” with its Imposing Table Mountains, plentiful rivers accompanied by winding jungles that surround the hugeness of the savannahs and over fly the Angel Fall we would land in the native community of Uruyen. The Uruyen Camp is located in the “Gran Sabana” in the Kamarata Valley in the territory full of the Table Mountains the sacred mountains of the Pemones Indians.
